Pre-Mixed Ready to Drink Old Fashioned Whisky Cocktail In A Bottle
My take on the time honoured whisky libation made in the Old Fashioned Way!
Around the late 1880 cocktails were born, and what people would call a Sling, a heady mix of whisky, sugar, aromatic bitters and water, would be sipped and enjoyed in high society.
As concoctions became more fanciful, and time honoured traditions faded, those who remember cocktails made in the Old Fashioned Way would request them as such to the barman! Hence The Old Fashioned Cocktail we know today, though many variations and riffs are of course made today!
So my Old Fashioned Whisky Cocktail pays homage to those early revered libations. Indeed I use a whiskey. A Canadian one at that made with Newfoundland spring water, non chill filtered and aged in oak Bourbon barrels.
For Bitters I use Bogarts Bitters, a replica of the aromatic bitters created by the father of Mixology, Jerry Thomas, based on a late 19th century recipe after the company happened upon a bottle from the early 1900's! For me it's a must have ingredient!
Rich Demerara syrup with a touch of Maldon sea salt, and a hint of orange aroma finishes the drink.
To enjoy it, put the bottle into your freezer drawer and chill for over an hour. Pour liberally over ice cubes and savour with an orange twist if you have one to hand!
